The more I started looking at debt reduction and financial freedom, the more one man’s name came up: Dave Ramsay.

Everyone raves about Dave, he’s got tens of thousands of amazing reviews, so I went out and bought his Total Money Makeover audio books / set.

I wish I hadn’t. I listened to about 10 minutes and went out and bought the books…

Which are much better!

I’m English Australian and I just don’t do all that over-the-top, emotional hyperbole that Dave seems to love. It’s just not necessary. You’ve made your point, don’t labour it.

But the books are fabulous: full of down-to-earth, easy-to-follow steps and advice. It’s just him speaking that I don’t like, lol.

On the subject of debt, Dave speaks from personal experience, having made millions and gone bankrupt in his 20’s.

His major advice is to avoid debt at all costs: “you shouldn’t buy it if you can’t afford it.”  and he’s taken his hatred of debt and credit card companies to an extreme level as he won’t accept credit card payments on his websites.

He recommends two financial strategies: “Baby Steps” and “Debt Snowball”.

Baby Steps allows you to confront your financial situation and begin the process of eliminating debt, increasing savings, and making smart investments.

Debt Snowball is Dave’s method of paying off debt. He teaches you to list out all of your debts, and starting with the smallest one, you pay off each one in turn.
